Winter Forage Triticale Varieties
Most winter triticale in the Pacific Northwest are planted to harvest at boot stage and double crop. The exceptions are in dryland settings and at higher elevations where flowering and milk stage are often the harvest stage for hay.
Trical 815 is a variety that has higher protein for high nutrition forage quality for lactating cows. This variety is also the earliest to boot stage in the spring and has strong winter hardiness. Trical 815 is mainly used on irrigated ground.
Trical 718 is a new variety that has found a place similar to Trical 102 but with one step up for fall and spring grazing, 3 days earlier maturity to late boot and better lodging resistance. Trical 718 has these advantages but still commands the strong winter hardiness and broad adaptability and durability demonstrated by Trical 102.
