ProGene Plant Research has brought an aggressive variety development program to North America through our own breeding and the breeding of our partners. In 2000
ProGene Plant Research presented a major breakthrough in varieties for the Pacific Northwest and later the Upper Midwest with five green and two yellow varieties in commercial use.
These varieties have helped the industry to move to a new level, especially in the PNW, through the improved agronomics of the semi leafless type peas while maintaining good bleach
resistance. A new generation of varieties are now poised to help the industry to progress even further into the future.

Pacifica: green pea for the Pacific Northwest: (ProGene Plant Research bred) The Columbian type whole green market is distinctly separate from the
round smooth greens. The smooth but dimpled appearance of the Columbian pea has set the standard for excellence in quality from the Pacific Northwest for the past 25 years. Now for
the first time this quality Columbian appearance can be available in a semi-leafless stand up pea with improved yield capabilities over the Columbian. A winter increase of Pacifica
with the help of our New Zealand partner allowed for significant seed increase plantings in the PNW in 2005. Commercial seed will be available for the first time in the spring of
2006. See our Pea information page to pull up a full profile of Pacifica with yield, maturity and agronomic comparisons.

New Yellows for the Pacific Northwest:
Carousel: Versatility of Badminton but with the preferred plant height from our Swedish partner, Svalof Weibull.
007 Yellow: The quality characteristics of Rex but with the advantages of the semi-leafless growth habit from our French partner, Florimond Desprez.

New Shelf Extender green split for all of North America:
Aragorn: From our New Zealand partner comes Aragorn with an amazing breakthrough on bleach resistance and superior agronomics. This variety has looked so good that we
started seed increases even before we had yield comparisons. Advanced yield trials have since confirmed our expectations and indicated broad adaptability throughout North
America.
